Understanding and effectively implementing sanctions

Sanctions are a key instrument of international policy-with far-reaching consequences for financial intermediaries. Compliance with international sanctions is not only mandatory, but also essential to avoid legal, financial, and reputational risks.

Our practice-oriented, web-based e-learning module provides you with essential foundational knowledge and equips you with the necessary skills to navigate the world of sanctions confidently and in compliance with regulations. Through concrete practical examples, you will be enabled to identify risks, correctly classify sanctions, and make well-informed decisions.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the training, you will be able to:

  • understand the significance and types of sanctions,
  • know which institutions impose and enforce sanctions,
  • comprehend the territorial and extraterritorial effects of sanctions,
  • identify the most important sanction provisions,
  • analyse practical examples and assess risks,
  • understand the challenges that financial intermediaries face when dealing with sanctions.

Duration
Completing the full training takes approximately 45 minutes.

Certificate
Upon successful completion of the e-learning module, you will receive a certificate.

FinSA Basic Training
Understanding and correctly applying the Swiss Financial Services Act (FinSA)

The Swiss Financial Services Act (FinSA) forms the central regulatory framework for investor protection in the Swiss financial market. It defines the requirements for the provision of financial services as well as the conduct duties of financial service providers in their dealings with clients. Proper implementation is essential to ensure compliance with legal requirements and to mitigate legal and reputational risks.

Key content areas
This practice-oriented web-based e-learning module provides an introduction to the core requirements of FinSA and builds a solid understanding of the regulatory obligations within the client advisory process. The focus is placed on client segmentation, conduct duties, and the requirements relating to information disclosure, documentation, and the assessment of appropriateness and suitability of financial services. Practical examples support the transfer of knowledge into day-to-day working practice.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the training, you will be able to:

  • understand the objectives and fundamental principles of FinSA,
  • correctly apply client segmentation into retail clients, professional clients, and institutional clients,
  • understand the requirements of the appropriateness and suitability assessment in investment advisory and asset management,
  • apply the information, documentation, and accountability obligations within the client process,
  • consistently implement the conduct duties of financial service providers,
  • and identify typical regulatory risks in the FinSA context.

Completing the full training takes approximately 4 hours (245 minutes).

Upon successful completion of the e-learning module, you will receive a certificate.

The training is recognised by the Swiss advisor registers.

Refreshing FinSA knowledge and applying it confidently in day-to-day advisory practice

The requirements of the Swiss Financial Services Act (FinSA) are an integral part of the regulatory framework for financial service providers in Switzerland. Regular refreshment supports the correct application of legal requirements, ensures high-quality client advisory services, and helps reduce compliance risks in client-facing business activities.

This web-based e-learning module is designed to review and deepen the core provisions of FinSA. It focuses on the practical application of conduct duties in client interactions, correct client segmentation, and the appropriateness and suitability assessment. Typical sources of error from daily advisory practice are addressed and reflected upon using case studies.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the training, you will be able to:

  • confidently review and reinforce the key requirements of FinSA,
  • correctly apply conduct duties in the client advisory process,
  • accurately assess client segmentation and its impact on advisory practice,
  • correctly apply the requirements for appropriateness and suitability,
  • identify and avoid common compliance risks in day-to-day advisory work,
  • and strengthen their confidence in applying regulatory requirements.
